It is therefore a case of alternate continuties. Chaos is only sealed in Galaxia in the anime and Chaos being the source of the other villains is a manga-only plot. Can we get a timeline of the life of Chaos (and the timing of the Sailor Wars), please? Otherwise, perhaps Chaos had already incarnated in the forms of Wiseman (which, at least, must be true), Pharaoh 90, Queen Metalia, and Nehelenia by the time Galaxia sealed him. If Chaos is sealed in Sailor Galaxia's body, how is it also the source of all of the villains in the other arcs? Unless I am confusing my chronology or Chaos was never fully sealed in the first place, this seems to be physically impossible. There's actually been lots of discussion about this-apparently Viz asked for the worse masters because of a stipulation from Toei: "you can have our top-quality DVD masters but absolutely not edit them in any way, or you can have these old TV masters which you can do whatever you want with." Viz opted for the latter so they could upscale it artifically and claim they had Sailor Moon in high-definition and thus, sell blu-rays.Come to think of it, why did Viz get really bad masters to the series? If Toei was finally willing and able to relicense the franchise to outside countries, wouldn't they want Viz to get the best masters around? I heard that even Toei might not have had great masters, but why didn't they just source them from the Italian DVDs if that's true? I've heard those have really good remasters on them, so why didn't they? Plus, why did the company that put the DVDs and Blu-Rays together pay more close attention to the quality control for Season 1's sets? Overstauration of colors, ghosting, and the DVDs apparently having the worst of the problems if you watch them on a non-widescreen TV making the episodes in black boxes? Did they not check the things after printing the first copies to make sure there wasn't any noticeable problems? This doesn't make much sense.ADV released the dubbed episode to video years before they released the subbed sets. Why bother spending money on redoing the dub when you can make money on the one you already have. When ADV acquired the license to Sailor Moon, they also acquired the rights to distribute the DiC dub too.Likewise Viz acquiring the show coincided with Sailor Moon Crystal being announced - meaning that the announcement could possibly lead to a renewed interest in the old series, making re-dubbing it a much more profitable thing. It's a job that could theoretically be done by just a couple of people. But subbing it just requires translating and putting the subtitles on. If you're going to dub the series, you need to hire actors to voice the characters, as well as casting directors and all the necessary below the line personnel. They might not have had the budget for it.When ADV Films got the license to the uncut version of the first 2 seasons of Sailor Moon in 2003, why didn't they give them an all-new dub and left it sub-only, but when Viz Media got in 2014, almost 10 years later, they decided to give the uncut versions all-new English dubs?.
